New Hants Aldi approved despite controversy over past Lidl row

Plans to open a new Aldi in Farnborough have been approved by a planning inspectorate despite being rejected in 2021. Back in 2021, Supermarket giants Aldi and Lidl were at loggerheads over the planning application for the new food store. In February 2020, Aldi submitted proposals to move into empty neighbouring units within Blackwater Shopping Centre, known locally as Farnborough Gate. These plans were expected to be approved in November 2020, but the decision was deferred when Lidl stepped in citing concerns over the proposal.
